Every Ability Plays Project

Every Ability Plays Project aims to expand the world of play for play for children with disabilities through accessible equipment in their neighborhood playgrounds, communities, as well as their own backyards. Through EAPP, children will have endless possibilities to develop alongside peers without barriers
We learn how to reciprocate with our peers, experience our bodies, interact with our
environment, and experience a shared sense of adventure when we play. Every Ability Plays
Project serves as a resource for children with disabilities by providing adaptive play equipment
and creating accessible playgrounds. The founder of EAPP, Toña Rivera, was born with
Cerebral Palsy, and loved going to the park to play with her sister when she was a child.
Unfortunately, she could not access most of the playground equipment at her childhood park
due its design. However, this has not stopped her in her tireless pursuit of what is meaningful in
life. Toña’s inspiration for Every Ability Plays Project was influenced by the philanthropist, Wallis
Annenberg, who contributed funds to the development of an adaptive tree house. Toña wants
children with disabilities to have every opportunity to develop alongside their peers through play
and she is dedicated to making that a reality for children throughout New Mexico. The ability to
play is a fundamental part of the human experience. Providing adaptive equipment for
playgrounds and modifying playgrounds for accessibility will enhance the experience of children
with disabilities and improve their development and quality of life.
