The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) ordered a total freeze on “all Federal financial assistance, such as grants and loans” by January 28, 2025. After national public outcry and a federal judge temporarily halting OMB’s Order, OMB issued a second Memorandum revoking the freeze.

Compose your message:

  1. Be specific about how the freeze will impact jobs at your organization (i.e., how many jobs are federally funded?)
  2. Explain how frozen funds support people in their districts
  3. If you are able to, identify the timeline for federal cash on hand (i.e, when will you run out if you are unable to draw more down?)
  4. Emphasize the confusion and chaos of this moment, and that even if this decision is reversed, or found to be illegal, damage is already occurring
  5. Include this text in your email: The Office of Management and Budget's direction to federal agencies to freeze all grants and loans should be reversed immediately. Nonprofit employees represent 62,445 jobs in the NM workforce, 10% of NM private sector employment, account for $3.22 billion in economic activity brought to our state, and $2.58 billion in wages and salary. This shortsighted decision will translate into lost jobs, unpaid mortgages and rents, and disruptions to vital services like housing in the middle of winter.
