Volunteer Managers Certificate Program Starts September

Remember Volunteer Albuquerque? It was a nonprofit created over ten years ago to facilitate volunteering at local nonprofits in the Albuquerque area. It recently donated $14,000 to the UNM Foundation to benefit the nonprofit community and its hard working volunteer managers. Over the past 18 months, Volunteer Albuquerque, with support from M.O.V.E, NM Commission on Volunteerism and the CVC have been working with UNM's Continuing Education, to establish a Volunteer Management Certificate Program as its legacy to the community. The donation will fund scholarships for this certificate program, which consists of courses specifically designed for volunteer managers in the areas of motivating and managing volunteers, communicating and creating positive change in nonprofits.

Volunteer Albuquerque (VA), was the predecessor to the City of Albuquerque Mayor's Office of Volunteerism & Engagement (MOVE), established in 2005 to continue VA's works of matching volunteers with nonprofits that needed them. For four years, VA worked with MOVE to produce seminars and the brown bag series for volunteer managers until 2009, at which time VA decided to cease active operations. The volunteer brown bag sessions are being continued through the Center for Nonprofit Excellence at United Way of Central New Mexico.

By special arrangement with UNM, if you register for all three required courses, the reduced tuition will be $399. You must register by phone by calling Marie McGhee at 277 0723 to get this special price. A minimum of 8 scholarships of $300 each semester will be awarded to help cover the tuition for these courses, which can earn 1.5 Continuing Education Credits with UNM.
