New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness Demands Improvement to ID System

MVD Fails to Implement Changes.

Lawyers from the ACLU, the New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty, Somos Un Pueblo Unido and Freedman Boyd Hollander Goldberg Urias and Ward PA filed suit against the Department of Taxation and Revenue (Motor Vehicle Division) over the implementation of the state's two tiered drivers license and ID system.

New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness (NMCEH) is one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit along with Somos Un Pueblo Unido and a number of individuals including former Santa Fe Mayor David Coss. The decision to go to court came only after the Department failed to implement the improvements to the regulations that NMCEH and they agreed would fix the situation during many meetings in 2017.

NMCEH is asking the court to force MVD to abide by the law as it was passed by the State Legislature and make the process of obtaining a non-federal ID or license simple.
