Description of the Volunteer Opportunity:

Our students primarily come from Rio Rancho and the Westside of Albuquerque. The majority of our students lack a high school diploma; read at or below a fifth grade level; have family incomes that are below the poverty line; are seeking employment or working only part time; and lack computer skills.
We offer training to volunteers over 2 Saturdays to become either an English as a Second Language (ESL) or Basic Literacy (BL) tutor. We also offer training to become a Computer Literacy Tutor.
Once trained, the Volunteer is matched with a student. The Tutor and Student meet weekly to work towards the Student's goals. Goals may include: filling out a job application, getting their Citizenship, learning to read to their children or learning how to apply for jobs online. Some of our Tutors teach group classes. Both group classes and the one-to-one tutoring makes a significant impact on the lives of our students.
