Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Dual Language Education of New Mexico is seeking volunteers to join our Board of Directors. Launched in 2001, DLeNM works with teachers, administrators, and communities to develop and support dual language education programs, where instruction is provided in a combination of English and Spanish, or another heritage language. This type of immersive instruction has been proven to close the achievement gap for English learners and enhance the academic proficiency of all students, including native English speakers (Thomas & Collier, 2002). Dual Language Education of New Mexico’s mission is to develop, support, and advocate for high-quality dual language education in New Mexico, and beyond (www.dlenm.org). DLeNM is committed to supporting partner school communities and LEAs in the development, implementation and sustainability of PreK-12 dual language education. Our organization provides programatic support and professional development support to schools and districts that either have a dual language program or are trying to implement one. DLeNM also hosts the largest dual language conference in the country every November in New Mexico. We offer our board volunteers the opportunity to participate in professional learning opportunities that connect with our work.

Additional Requirements: 

DLeNM Board of Directors has historically been made up of classroom teachers. As the organization is looking at its strategic plan and areas of opportunity we are looking for members to join us with diverse backgrounds that include: Marketing, Legal, Project Management, Accounting, and Technology. We would love the opportunity to talk to you to see if there is a connection and a desire to join our team.
