Description of the Volunteer Opportunity:
Ombudsmen are people from all backgrounds and experiences who are motivated to improve quality of life of residents currently living in LTC facilities and raise the standard of care into the future. In contrast to regulatory authorities, which monitor and enforce applicable regulations, Ombudsmen identify and resolve problems from the resident’s perspective. As independent resident-directed advocates, they are not neutral as they are always an advocate for the outcome the resident desires.
Areas of Interest:

Seniors
Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project:
The New Mexico Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP) advocates for and alongside residents of nursing facilities and assisted living facilities for the recognition, respect, and enforcement of the civil and human rights of residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities, often providing a voice for individuals living in long-term care (LTC) facilities who might otherwise go unheard.
