Mission Statement:

The Duke City Wheelmen Foundation’s mission is to promote the activity of bicycling in New Mexico. We also work to improve the safety of cyclist in Albuquerque and through out New Mexico. Our methods include building awareness, educational opportunities and information dissemination.

Primary Programs:

We have four main areas of effort we are currently working on:

1. Preparation, placement and maintenance of Ghost Bike Descansos. Ghost bikes are important as a visual reminder, of both the cyclists who have died while riding their bicycles and the importance of driving safely, no matter what vehicle we choose.

2. Contact with visual, print, radio and electronic media outlets and creation and updating a DCWF website. Through this we seek enhanced of awareness of cyclists, safe cycling and cycling related activities. Media contact also serves as a method to educate non-cycling drivers on how to best interact with cyclists on the road.

3. Awareness and education outreach efforts. Mechanisms such as literature development and distribution, bicycle rides, rallies and classroom training and will be used to disseminate safe cycling information, awareness and skills.

4. Sponsor Duke City Wheelmen bicycle racing team. This effort involves providing financial sponsorship to the Duke City Wheelmen, a USA Cycling registered racing club (#12866). This effort is focused on bringing the needs of safe cycling awareness and advocacy to the attention of competitive cyclists (who are traditionally less involved with these types of efforts).
