Mission Statement:

La Plazita Institute is a grassroots-based organization in Albuquerque's South Valley whose mission is to strengthen community and enable youth to leave behind a destructive lifestyle by tapping into their own roots to express core traditional values of respect, honor, love, family, and community.

Primary Programs:

Making a Change Programs La Plazita Institute provides ongoing cultural healing services for gang-involved and previously incarcerated youth and their families. We provide wraparound services for the most vulnerable families in Albuquerque. We assist them in linking with health services, food, housing and employment. We also foster applied literacy and computer literacy at our community computer clinic. Through our support, we assist our clients in overcoming multigenerational patterns of drug addiction, abuse, gang involvement and incarceration. La Plazita Gardens at Sanchez Farm La Plazita Institute is Mayordomo, or manager, of this 300 year old farm and wildlife refuge. Here, community members cultivate individual plots, while La Plazita staff and youth grow chemical-free produce to sell at local farmers markets and to local schools. Special Services La Plazita Institute offers gang awareness seminars and trainings locally, nationally, and internationally. We provide gang-intervention services to local High Schools. We also provide cultural healing services to Native American Veterans suffering from PTSD as well as incarcerated Native American Youth
