The Albuquerque Oasis mission is to promote successful aging through a three-pronged approach: lifelong learning, healthy living and social engagement. Offering challenging programs in the arts, humanities, wellness and volunteer service, Oasis creates opportunities for older adults to continue their personal growth and meaningful service to the community.
The Lifelong Learning Program offers more than 400 educational topics annually in the arts, humanities, current events, health and wellness, as well as travel. Short-term classes are taught by academics and professionals in the local community.
The Volunteer Intergenerational Tutoring Program in association with ABQ Public Schools, Bernalillo and the Rio Rancho School District. Volunteers are trained as reading mentors for students K-4 who are below appropriate reading level. Volunteer reading mentors commit to meeting with identified students for one hour, one day a week following the school schedule.
