Santa Fe Pro Musica
Santa Fe Pro Musica brings together outstanding musicians to inspire and educate audiences of all ages through the performance of great music.
With a fall, winter and spring season that offers historically informed orchestral and chamber ensemble concerts, Santa Fe Pro Musica performs about 30 concerts each season in historic Santa Fe venues.
Educational outreach programs introduce New Mexico residents, including thousands of local schoolchildren, to classical music, and encourage them to learn, perform and create:
Youth Concert Series: Brings thousands of students to Santa Fe Pro Musica concerts at the Lensic Performing Arts Center where Music Director, Tom O’Connor, guides them through the concert program and interacts with them during a question and answer session. For many, this is a life-altering first encounter with classical music.
CHAMPS! (Apprentice Artist Chamber Music Program): Designed for young musicians from grade school through high school ages who wish to explore the unique art of chamber music. Each academic year talented young musicians are organized into ensembles and coached by professionals.
Young Artists Recital: The Young Artists Recital presents the CHAMPS! in a gala concert before an enthusiastic and supportive audience.
Master classes: Guest artists performing with Santa Fe Pro Musica, offer master classes for selected New Mexico School for the Arts music students and CHAMPS! students. The public is also welcome.
Meet the Music: Prior to each concert, conductor Thomas O’Connor presents pre-concert talks, taking listeners inside the music with interesting stories about the lives of composers, their music and their times. He demonstrates his lecture with musical excerpts, clues and cues that will enhance your understanding and enjoyment.
