New Mexico Alliance of Health Councils
The mission of the NM Alliance of Health Councils is to improve the health of New Mexico communities by supporting and strengthening the state's 38 county and tribal health councils.
New Mexico's 38 county and tribal health councils have provided community-based health planning, coordination, and community mobilization to improve health in New Mexico since 1991. The NM Alliance of Health Councils was established in 2010 to work in three primary areas of activity:
• Policy: Establish a statewide, unified voice to strengthen and promote the value and services of community health councils;
• Capacity-building: Build the capacity of all health councils through creating a statewide, supportive infrastructure, training, convenings, web-based resources, and other means;
• Resource Development: Assist the health councils in seeking funding and other resources to support community health improvement;
New Mexico's health councils play a key role in identifying and addressing local community health needs, and in working to achieve greater health equity. The Alliance supports the health councils in their work and advocates on their behalf. The Alliance represents the health councils with many state agencies, organizations, and coalitions, working collaboratively to improve the health of New Mexico communities.
