Mission Statement:

Literacy Volunteers of Socorro County is an organization of trained volunteers dedicated to providing one-to-one or small group tutoring to functionally illiterate adults and to others lacking English Language skills.

Primary Programs:

Literacy Volunteers of Socorro County will be known in the community as a volunteer-based, professional organization with a commitment to: 1) Free Basic Reading Tutoring, 2) Pre-GED in reading, math, and social science, 3) English as a Second Language, 4) Vocational Computer classes, 5) Family Literacy Workshops promoting the importance of Reading to Children, 6) High Interest/Appropriate Reading level for the adult reader, and Citizenship. Our services are provided free of charge. Students are tested and placed with other students at their level in small groups or with tutors one-to-one. Our services are provided, with the aid of grants and community support, to the City of Socorro, Magdalena, Alamo Navajo Indian Reservation, and Veguita.
