Mission Statement:

It is EWI’s mission to help communities build capacity to restore, protect, and live in harmony with their natural environment. We do this by bringing together education, community-driven land stewardship, watershed restoration, land-use planning and policy work, and our green collar climate corps.

Primary Programs:

Water & Land Health

EWI’s Water & Land Health Program restores healthy stream and upland ecosystems by reconnecting landowners and communities to stewardship values and practices. We do this by:

* Establishing model restoration sites that demonstrate bio-technical solutions and inspire people to connect to the land

* Building Community Stewardship Teams to monitor restoration progress and engage local citizens

4C:The Climate Change Conservation Corps

4C provides service-oriented training to young adults ready to explore 5 green career pathways:

* Natural Resource Health,

* Green Planning, Architecture and Building,

* Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Systems,

* Organic Food Production and Local Food Security

* Education and Community Mobilization.

Earth Action Education Activities

* Training teachers in experiential outdoor environmental education

* Designing outdoor classrooms and school gardens

* Leading adult workshops on water harvesting, native ecology, restoration and more.

Eco Planning & Policy Activities

Conduct applied research, planning, and policy development work on topics regarding:

* County growth management,

* open space conservation,

* community based land stewardship,

* local water governance,

* landscape-wide stream and wetland restoration,

* wildlife corridor and habitat management, and

* outdoor education.
