Not Forgotten Outreach

Not Forgotten Outreach is dedicated to motivating disabled military veterans and Gold Star families of fallen heroes to participate in recreational and/or therapeutic activities in order to facilitate the healing process.
In September 2018, NFO launched VetCorps, which focuses on Military Families and agricultural training. VetCorps is a six-month long experiential agriculture training program for Veterans and Military Families. VetCorps trains beginner Veteran farmers and ranchers through direct agriculture, hands-on workshops, and mental health resources. Through partnerships with regional non-profits and educational institutions, VetCorps participates in workshops on hoop houses, crop farming, apiculture, permaculture, hydroponics, land restoration/acquisition, food safety, farm safety, natural resource management/planning, and diversification and marketing strategies. The workshops provide diversified and sustainable agriculture practices that can be applied to participants’ new or existing farm operations. NFO distributes 75 percent of all food produced through VetCorps to local low income families and other non-profits.
To address Veteran related challenges including Post Traumatic Stress (PTS), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Military Sexual Trauma (MST), and suicidal ideation, VetCorps combines ecotherapy with mental health resources to improve participant’s whole health. VetCorps members receive weekly group learning activities, led by a licensed social worker, and weekly trauma conscious yoga classes.
NFO hosts adaptive sports programs for disabled Veterans including skiing, ski biking, and fly fishing. Additionally, we host three annual community events listed below.
Fall Festival: In October, we host a fun filled event for the families of Taos to visit the Not Forgotten Outreach farm and pick out pumpkins to make jack-o’-lanterns, buy fresh honey and vegetables, and see our farm animals.
Veterans Day Picnic: Every Veterans day, we provide a free dinner for Veterans and Military Families in Taos County at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Church in Taos.
Military Family Appreciation Ski Week: Starts on the monday after Martin Luther King Day and provides an affordable week on the slopes including discounts on rentals, lift tickets, group lessons, children’s ski school, childcare, and more. The event also incorporates group dining, encouraging participants to both spend time together as a family and build relationships with new friends.
