Mission Statement:

The Gynecological Cancer Awareness Project foundation was created for women with gynecological cancer. Our mission is to empower women who are fighting gynecological cancer by providing education and support -- helping them to live a healthy and inspired life.

Primary Programs:

Our strongest achievement as a grassroots foundation is the creation of the Clever Senoras support group. The group, which is open to all women with gynecological cancers, meets once monthly to encourage socialization and creative expression of each woman’s experience with cancer. We built the Kay Haney Gynecological Cancer library and provide patients in need with small grants to pay for hotel accommodations, rent, electricity bills or gas cards through an application process. The purpose of this aid is to help them have critical treatment and retain the ability to pay their medical bills. There is only one organization in New Mexico, Colorado and West Texas (in Colorado) that specifically assists women with just ovarian cancer.

GCAP serves women with gynecological cancers. Our potential service audience is over 1,000 women per year, The women receiving our supports have voiced many times that the hardest part of having cancer is not the surgery or even the difficult chemotherapy but trying to live in a "new normal" when treatment is completed. There are very limited resources available for this population. We are present at community events to educate about the prevention, screening and treatment of the different gynecological cancers affecting women of all ages, from those experiencing their first hormonal changes to our beloved grandmothers. The Gynecological Cancer Awareness Project is bringing joy, comfort, education and financial assistance to the women who need them from New Mexico and the southwest region.
