Santa Fe Institute
To foster a transdisciplinary research community that expands the boundaries of scientific understanding and to discover the common fundamental principles in physical, computational, biological, and social systems that underlie many of the profound problems facing science and society today.
SFI research programs cover Physics of Complex Systems; Emergence, Innovation and Robustness in Evolutionary Systems; Information Processing & Computation in Complex Systems; Dynamics & Quantitative Studies of Human Behavior; and Emergence, Organization & Dynamics of Living Systems.
In addition to research, the Institute has a robust education and outreach program that reaches local, state and national audiences. SFI seeks to help students, educators and citizens understand the complex, interacting systems that make up the world around us. Programs for students of all ages and backgrounds prepare today’s scientists, inspire new communities, improve pedagogical methods, and build the foundation for systemic, long-term change in science education.
