Our mission is to improve access to fresh, organic food and gardening education for diverse populations in Albuquerque. We work to demonstrate and educate the community about sustainable agriculture, enhance wildlife habitat and preserve agricultural land and traditions.
Rio Grande Community Farm provides two primary programs to support our mission. RGCF has a 2 acre community garden that is open to the public to garden their own rows/plots. We partner with Tres Hermanas Refugee Farm, Firewheel Women's Collective and Desert Forge. 25% of what we grow is for wildlife including flocks of migrating sandhill cranes. Each fall the City of Albuquerque and RGCF sponsor the annual Maize Maze, now in it's 22nd year and a major fundraiser for RGCF.
We partner with Alverado Elementary to provide water to their garden and school groups with tours and lessons in the educational garden. We offer lessons, workshops and tours throughout the year to the general community that support education around sustainable growing practices.
