Santa Fe Women's Ensemble
The Santa Fe Women's Ensemble promotes the recognition, appreciation and creation of women's choral repertoire through innovative and inspiring performances, recording and commissioning new music, and furthers its community involvement through outreach and education.
The SFWE is a group of 13-14 women that presents two formal concerts programs each season, at Christmas (4 performances) and in the Spring (generally one performance). At these performances, we present a mix of a cappella and accompanied music from the Renaissance through the present day. In our 30 seasons, our commissioning program has led to the creation of 28 new works for treble chorus; the season's new commission is typically presented at our Christmas concerts. We consider Santa Fe's Loretto Chapel our "home."
In addition to our formal programs, we make several informal appearances each season -- including pre-concert run-throughs at Santa Fe's retirement homes, and a community holiday concert at the Basilica with the Santa Fe Symphony. We have also embarked on a partnership with the girls' chorus from Santa Fe High, a partnership that has involved joint appearances and a planned student internship program. We continue to seek new opportunities for community outreach.
Finally, we sponsor an annual caroling party -- a really fun event in early December at which our supporters sing holiday favorites with us, eat and drink deliciously and bid on wonderful auction items.
