New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty

1) Healthcare: We work to ensure that New Mexico builds a healthcare system that serves all of us by strengthening Medicaid, improving hospital financial assistance programs, and advocating for successful healthcare initiatives for our families and children. 2) Education: The Center is representing a group of families and school districts in a lawsuit against the State of New Mexico for failing to meet its constitutionally mandated responsibility to provide all public school students with the programming and supports necessary to succeed. 3) Workers’ Rights: We advocate for a fair minimum wage and paid sick leave; to increase workers’ compensation and minimum wage coverage; and to ensure labor laws are properly enforced. 4) Public Benefits: The Center advocates to improve and repair the public benefits application and renewal processes so that eligible families can access and maintain the services they need. 5) Fair Lending: We are working to end exploitive lending practices through the strong enforcement of consumer protection laws that keep families in a cycle of debt.
