Working Class Theatre
The purpose of the company is to produce provocative and socially relevant theatre, create new theatrical works, develop emotionally authentic ensemble acting and foster a nurturing environment where theatre artists at any stage may train and assist in the production of professional theatre.
Working Class Theatre (WCT) is dedicated to producing high quality theatrical performances in the modern and classical genres and to provide educational experiences in every aspect of theatre production for students of all ages. The company is comprised of two dozen theatre professionals who have fled the larger centers of entertainment, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, etc., in search of a more relaxed and focused environment in which to create and explore the art of theatre.
We are the only full-time, professional theatre company in the Taos area. WCT is governed by an ad hoc committee lead by Artistic Director Ron Usherwood and Producers Dancer Dearing and Jim Pollard. We are a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization recognized by the IRS and the State of New Mexico. Each year WCT chooses one production around which to center our educational outreach program, generally a work from the classical canon. In 2011 the company will be rehearsing and performing William Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” which will be the centerpiece for our outreach.
