Feeding Santa Fe
Feeding Santa Fe, Inc. is a nonprofit and tax-exempt, all volunteer organization whose mission is to provide supplemental food on a regular basis to those in need.
* Food Bag Distribution is the main thrust of the program to alleviate hunger. Approximately 900 bags of food are given out each Thursday morning of the year to anyone in need of food on a drive-through process at the warehouse at 1222 Siler Road in Santa Fe. Included are low to very-low income individuals and families who may be unemployed, recently lost their jobs or had their hours cut, making it difficult to put food on the table. Included are seniors on fixed income and veterans who may not have needed help before, all who have to make choices between paying rent, utility or medical bills, fuel for vehicles or FOOD, the last of which frequently does not lead to regular meals with nutritious food choices.
* Healthy Snacks are provided for children, including two half pints of milk and, on a rotating basis, cheese sticks, applesauce cups, small boxes of raisins or dry cereal.
* Outreach Efforts have resulted in partnerships so that food bags are being provided for young families in the Head Start Home Visiting Program, for at-risk seniors as part of the County of Santa Fe Senior Services and for Meals on Wheels and other groups, including several senior citizen groups.
