As the 23rd annual Make a Difference Day weekend came to a close, over 60 agencies had registered a project on the MDD website, with over 1000 volunteers signing up to make a difference in the greater Albuquerque area.
From collection drives, to open space cleanup, to kitchen remodeling, to painting of buildings, food packing and much more, hundreds of volunteers came together to help their neighbors in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho.
Since 2005, Albuquerque has participated in this national weekend event of “doing good” joining the ranks of thousands of people in the U.S. helping those needing assistance in their communities.
This year, the Make a Difference Day committee was able to provide men’s and women’s underwear and socks to two agencies assisting the homeless, provide food items to a food pantry that feeds over 800 families a month, provide Lowe’s gift cards for those agencies needing to purchase paint, brushes and other tools for their projects, provide food items to help fill Thanksgiving baskets for women at risk, and of course provide “free” Make a Difference Day T-shirts for volunteers and agency staff.
All this due to the generous sponsorships of Sandia National Labs, NM Educators FCU, Sandia Labs FCU, The Gap, Houston Auto, Corporate Volunteer Council, Wells Fargo, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Mayors Office of Volunteerism and Engagement (M.O.V.E) and USNMFCU.
If you were able to participate this year - THANK YOU! If not, there’s always next year!
