United Way of Central NM's Affinity Groups Open 2013 Grant Cycle


United Way of Central New Mexico’s Affinity Groups (Women in Philanthropy, Hispano Philanthropic Society and Young Leaders Society) will be offering the following grants for 2013-2014. 

Women in Philanthropy, Women’s Self Sufficiency Grant
The purpose of United Way of Central New Mexico’s Women in Philanthropy Women’s Self-Sufficiency (WSS) grants is to help create sustainable systemic change in our four-county (Valencia, Sandoval, Torrance, Bernalillo) community through grants that address a continuum of services and the most pressing issues for women. These grants will provide funding to programs focused on one or more of the following areas:
  • Improve high school graduation rates and/or assist with GED completion
  • Provide job/skill training for women to secure full-time employment. and/or 
  • Support transitional and/or permanent housing for women
 
Hispano Philanthropic Society, HPS Middle School Education Initiative Fund
The purpose of the United Way of Central New Mexico’s Hispano Middle School Education Initiative is to empower middle school youth, (5th – 9th grade)  to reach their highest human potential.  These grants will provide funding for programs focused on one or more of the following areas:
  • Provide mentorship opportunities for middle school students
  • Expose middle school students  to a broad spectrum  of career opportunities and skills
  • Emphasize the importance of education/training beyond high school, and/or
  • Leverage community connections to encourage family participation in the education process
 
Young Leaders Society, Young Leaders Initiative Fund
The purpose of United Way of Central New Mexico’s  Young Leaders Society Initiative Fund is to assist, inspire and empower youth (13-18) to transition into adulthood and develop into our future leaders.  These grants will provide funding to programs focused on one or more of the following areas:
  • Support educational accomplishments and needs
  • Provide life skills, and/or
  • Inspire community involvement for youth
 
ALL Agencies must meet the following criteria to apply for funding:
  • Offer a program that meets one or more of the areas listed above
  • Provide program services in one or more of the four counties of central New Mexico (Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance, Valencia)
  • Attend grant application training the week of February 18, 2013, complete an online application by March 29 and host a site visit or presentation during the month of April·   
  • As part of the online grant application, submit a current 501(c)3 letter, IRS Form 990, Board of Directors list and current audit (for agencies with more than $500,000 in annual revenue) or current financial statements signed by the Board Chair (for agencies under $500,000 in annual revenue)
  • If funded, biannual reports are required.
  • If applying for a Women’s Self Sufficiency Grant, you must meet the following additional requirements: cannot have applied for a United Way of Central New Mexico Community Fund grant in the same funding cycle.
