United Way of Central New Mexico has been involved with the Encore Fellowships Network for the past 3 years, linking a wealth of talent and time emerging from Baby Boomers who are retiring from successful careers with our community’s most promising nonprofit organizations.
Another program from Encore.org is the Purpose Prize, awarded annually to people over age 60 who are combining their passion and experience for the social good. The Purpose Prize is the nation's most prestigious prize for creative problem-solvers over the age of 60. It recognizes those who best exemplify the encore spirit: individuals with the energy and passion to apply their decades of hard-won experience, wisdom and skills to solving some of the world’s toughest problems.
The 2013 awards to 7 inspirational people were just given out at the Encore Leadership Institute meeting – here is a great article about the awards and this year’s winners: www.nextavenue.org/blog/purpose-prize-winners-changing-world-after-60. Over the years, a handful of New Mexicans have been honored as either Purpose Prize Fellows or Winners.
You may know of people who should be nominated for this honor, there are many stories in New Mexico of people over age 60 who are making a huge impact for social good. The 2014 Purpose Prize nominations process is a way to share those stories and gain recognition for their work.
