23rd Annual Amy Biehl Youth Spirit Award
New Mexico Voices for Children is seeking nominations for the Amy Biehl Youth Spirit Awards.
About the Award:
The Amy Biehl Youth Spirit Award was founded by New Mexico Voices for Children in 1993—the year that she passed away. The award honors Amy’s commitment to serve by celebrating young people in New Mexico who have stepped up to bring positive change to their communities and the world at large through community service.
For the purposes of this award, community service consists of either advocacy or volunteering. Advocacy is working to influence public policy on issues impacting people and communities. Activities might include media campaigns, public speaking, and talking to your elected officials or school officials.
Volunteering involves the giving of your time and talents to improve the quality of life for others. The beneficiaries of volunteer work may suffer from socio-economic disparities, discrimination based on race or ethnicity, physical ability, gender or some other difference, or the lack of opportunities or resources to improve their lives.
Volunteerism is not mandatory nor can result in any kind of monetary reward.
Who’s Eligible?
- New Mexico youth ages 13-26 demonstrating a commitment of community service.
- New Mexico youth that served their community between May 1, 2016 - April 30, 2017.
- New Mexico youth previously not awarded Amy Biehl Youth Spirit Award.
*Groups may not apply.

• Submit complete application along with a photo. Deadline is on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 5:00pm.
Awards:
- A total of $3,000 in cash awards will be given out to two age groups:13-18 and 19-26.
- 2 first place awards in the amount of $1,000 will be given to one person in each age group.
- 2 second place awards in the amount of $500 will be given to one person in each age group.
Awards will be presented on Monday, June 26, 2017 at our 5th annual KIDS COUNT Conference at the Marriott Pyramid Hotel, 5151 San Francisco Road NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109.
