2013 National Philanthropy Day Awards
Category Guidelines and Nomination Process
Award Recipients are recognized at the 26th Annual Luncheon on Tuesday, November 12, 2013.
The New Mexico Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, in conjunction with the Young Nonprofits Professionals Network, invite nominations of the below categories to recognize those individuals, organizations, and businesses that make our state a better place to live through great vision, compassion and generosity.
- Nominations are encouraged to be made online HERE (printable forms may also be downloadedHERE - forms may be printed/mailed if necessary). Nominations from 2012 may easily be resubmitted by answering a few basic question via the online form HERE.
- One category selected for each nomination. Late applications will not be considered.
- Selected recipients are asked to make every effort to attend the event for their recognition.
Items needed to complete Nomination Packet -
Complete one form per nominee.
- Complete contact information for the nominator and nominee.
- In a narrative of no more than two (2) pages, address each of the award category criteria.
- Provide (1) one-page maximum letter of support from someone other than the nominator.
- A one-page (maximum) bio or organizational history in narrative form is required.
- Additional items will not be considered.

All nominators will be notified on the selected recipients.
NPD AWARD CATEGORIES
Outstanding Business/Corporation in Philanthropy
This business or corporation (any size) demonstrates outstanding commitment through financial support and community involvement in New Mexico.
• Must provide total number of employees and percent involvement.
• Provide evidence of direct financial support for projects, programs or capital improvements.
• Describe the impact or achievements as a result of this financial support.
• Provide evidence of encouragement and motivation given to employees to contribute financially and volunteer in community activities.
Outstanding Fundraising Professional
This outstanding New Mexico fundraiser practices the profession in an exemplary manner in accordance with the AFP code of ethics. This candidate must have at least 10 years experience as a paid fundraising professional.
• Describe the breadth of the individual’s fundraising career; include major fundraising achievements and their impact.
• Illustrate commitment to the profession such as professional fundraising certification, publication, volunteer community involvement, involvement in professional fundraising organizations.
Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser
This volunteer may be an individual, couple or community board member who has demonstrated experience raising funds in a volunteer capacity in New Mexico.
• Describe projects and amounts raised.
• Describe significance of projects in community.
• Wherever possible, list fundraising involvement for other nonprofit organizations.
Outstanding Family or Foundation in Philanthropy
This philanthropic family or foundation embraces the vision of philanthropy to benefit services and programs in New Mexico.
- Describe the benefited programs and community impact.
- Describe the funds provided or evidence of volunteer service.
Outstanding New Mexico Leader in Philanthropy
This individual or couple has a proven record of personal generosity and, through direct financial support, have demonstrated civic and charitable responsibility in their region of New Mexico.
• Describe the impact of gift support such as new programs or projects launched or goals achieved.
• If known, briefly describe gift support to other charitable organizations.
Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy
Three awards will be given to recognize service by individuals or groups in the following age ranges, elementary, middle and high school. Recipients demonstrate commitment to the community through direct financial support, volunteering and/or leadership in philanthropy according to the following criteria. A youth/group may be nominated for an activity that took place while enrolled in that grade level, even if they are not currently in that grade.
• Describe the time, talent and/or treasure the youth/group provided and results achieved, including others involved (adult leaders, teachers, etc.).
• Describe the impact the nominee(s) had on the community, including numbers of people involved, philanthropic impact, organizations helped, etc. with names and contact information of individuals at organizations impacted.
• Describe the nominee’s innovation in the creation of this project or act - to what degree was the nominee responsible for the creation, orchestration, and results/outcomes of this project.
YNPN AWARD CATEGORIES
Since 2010, YNPN has joined AFP-NM to highlight up-and-coming philanthropic leaders in our state during the AFP-NM National Philanthropy Day event.
Outstanding Young Nonprofit Professional
This award recognizes a passionate person in her/his 20s or 30s who works in the nonprofit sector.
• Describe how the individual displays leadership.
• Describe how the individual's work benefits the community.
Outstanding Young Board Member
The outstanding young board member must be in his/her 20s or 30s. The young board member serves as a champion for the organization and brings fresh ideas to the governance structure.
• Describe how the individual has impacted the board and organization.
• Illustrate how the individual embodies leadership.
