The Rio Grande Food Project is hosting a free seminar on public benefits available in New Mexico. Anyone who works with the general public at a food pantry, soup kitchen, homeless shelter or other social service agency will find it beneficial.
Patricia Anders, Staff Attorney for the NM Center on Law and Poverty will lead the seminar on Tuesday, July 20 from 1:00-3:00 pm at the Rio Grande Food Project which is located in the Rio Grande at 600 Coors NW, 87121. Ms. Anders will give a general overview of the major benefits including SNAP and expedited SNAP (formerly Food Stamps), WIC, Child Care Assistance, TANF, General Assistance, and Medical Assistance programs. She will also discuss the application process, common barriers to get and stay on benefits and how to tackle them. There will be a focus on SNAP and immigrant eligibility.
