Make a Difference Day - ABQ and Rio Rancho Register Your Projects

The Center for Nonprofit Excellence at United Way of Central New Mexico, is pleased to support the Albuquerque area Make a Difference Day volunteer team.

This year Make a Difference Day will be held on Friday & Saturday, October 22 & 23, 2010.

Last year approximately 4,000 volunteers completed 228 volunteer projects for 123 nonprofit agencies in the greater Albuquerque community.  The 2010 planning committee is gearing up for this year's event and want to get even more volunteers mobilized!  We encourage you to think of a project(s) that a group of volunteers could do for your organization to help make things better for you and the people you serve.

You can register your projects(s) at www.centerfornonprofitexcellence.org  from August 25th through September 10th.  Go to the tab “Get Involved” then scroll down to Make a Difference Day.  You can complete the form online or print the form and email it to [email protected] or fax it to 845-5438.  Please complete a separate form for each project, AND provide as much information as possible.  For example, if painting, cleaning or yard work is involved please provide an estimate of the dimensions of the area, what tools you might need and any supplies volunteers need to provide.

Be innovative - Think of projects that will provide volunteers with meaningful and satisfying experiences and a positive impression of your agency.  Pulling weeds doesn’t fall into the innovative category.  Projects will be posted on the Center for Nonprofit Excellence website and available to the public on September 13th.  Keep in mind that volunteer groups prefer to select projects early in the process to allow enough time to coordinate.  As a result, projects submitted after the September 10th deadline might not be considered.  Teresa Branom, MDD Project Chairperson, will confirm receipt of projects as they are registered.

The project(s) can require a few volunteers (1-3), many (30-50), or some number in between.  Half-day projects are encouraged, and refreshments would be appreciated.  If your project will require a full day of service, please provide lunch for the volunteers, if possible.  In any event, please have a back-up plan in case the volunteers complete your project quicker than expected.  Perhaps you can have some additional projects available.  As projects are claimed, Teresa will put you in contact with the volunteer group's team leader, and the project will be removed from the website.  It will be your responsibility to contact the volunteer group as soon as possible and discuss the particulars.

Volunteers can begin signing up for projects on September 13, 2010.

For further information, please contact Teresa Branom, MDD Chairperson, DOE/NNSA at 845-4088 or [email protected].
