Keshet's "Alice" Sends Community Soaring

Keshet’s Community Sends “Alice” Soaring

Keshet Dance opens its latest creation, "Alice," an adventure of wonder and wondering (Nov. 9-18) with professional and community dancers aged 8-80, conceived and choreographed by Keshet’s founder and artistic director Shira Greenberg.

Like its predecessor, "Nutcracker on the Rocks," Keshet’s "Alice" combines dancers of all ages and abilities for a dance performance and live arts experience for the whole family, incorporating a lively score with great classic rock, jazz and more!

“Keshet’s 'Alice' draws inspiration from the 'Alice in Wonderland' story and characters, but our interpretation is only loosely based on Lewis Carroll’s work, and instead we experience Alice through a Keshet lens of self-discovery and new possibilities, embodying and embracing Keshet’s mission of unlimited possibilities.” Greenberg says.

Reviews:
“We expect Alice to enter a world of darkness, and yet, the show points her in another direction. Who would think that a 19th century book built largely on the violence of language and the terror of the unknown would find a place where cast and audience can celebrate our own personal Jabberwockies. Our vulnerabilities are virtues in Greenberg’s production and we learn some powerful lessons along the way…living in contemporary global civil society…we share in Alice’s struggle, in the reality that despite our best efforts we are never the right size. What Keshet’s 'Alice' proposes is just the opposite — we are always the right size.” – HuffPost, 2017

“Through modern dance, contemporary music…and poetry, this new show takes an extraordinary trip through Wonderland peopled by multiple Mad Hatters and Mad Hares, Water Wind Flowers and Bohemians. If you’re not familiar with Keshet, be enlightened. Their dancers are of all abilities. You will be moved when fellow dancers assist others to stand, dance and even fly. And you too will believe in “six impossible things before breakfast.” – Talkin’ Broadway, 2017
