Sandia National Laboratories/Lockheed Martin & Sandia Retirees & Friends have joined Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity to sponsor and help build our 156th home in Bernalillo County. Construction on the home will begin on April 9th with a wall-raising day and will continue through mid July.
The three-bedroom, two bathroom home will be for the Pena family, who have worked hard to get through the application process, including meeting income and credit guidelines and completing the 500 hours of “sweat equityâ€ù needed before they can move into the home. The family will be on site weekly working on these hours, meeting volunteers, and learning valuable skills that will help them when they become homeowners. Once the house is finished, the family will buy the home from Habitat for no profit, with a 0% interest loan. This home is part of the City of Albuquerque and the statewide effort to support Habitat for Humanity with its goal of providing, simple, decent and affordable shelter for people in need. Each of the Habitat for Humanity homes are built and certified to EnergyStar efficiency standards.
Volunteers of all talents are always needed and information about how to volunteer is available by calling Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity at (505) 265-0057.
