5 Steps to Get Your Board Involved in Fundraising

Inspire Your Board to Embrace Fundraising.

Although generally well-intentioned, Board members often shy away from helping raise funds for their organization. Nonprofit staff and leaders recognize that an engaged Board of Directors is a critical factor in the success of their organization. A major component of that success is a Board that understands and embraces its role in fundraising.

There are steps you can take to strengthen your Board’s participation in the critical role of fundraising:

  • Evaluate the type of Board you currently have governing your organization
  • Define the role that the Board members will play in fundraising activities
  • Find one or two Board members to take the lead in this transition
  • Engage your Board in fundraising activities & set clear goals for their participation as well as metrics to help measure their success
  • Use evaluation and governance or the nominating committee to strengthen Board management
