The United Way of Central New Mexico’s Women in Philanthropy Women’s Self-Sufficiency Initiative is focused on empowering women to break the cycle of poverty by supporting women’s employability and access to education.
Women’s Self-Sufficiency grants are awarded to those agencies that are directly working to increase the capacity of women in Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance and Valencia counties. The programs that apply for these grants provide a continuum of services that address the most pressing issues for women; including improving high school graduation rates and/or assisting with GED completion; providing job/skill training for women to secure employment; and supporting quality childcare as it enables women’s employability. The focus of the evaluation process will be on program alignment with women’s self-sufficiency goals as well as program measures and outcomes (proposal questions 6 & 8). The grants are program awards. Funds cannot be used for overall agency operating expenses, sub-grants or major capital expenditures and must provide direct services to women. Volunteers ensure donors’ Women Self-Sufficiency gifts are invested wisely; ensuring funded programs have a direct and measurable impact on increasing the capacity of women in central New Mexico.
Only nonprofits within the United Way of Central New Mexico’s 4 county service area (Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance or Valencia) and not applying for Community Fund grants are eligible for funding. All applicants must be willing to participate in an agency site visit (between March 23 – April 20) to be considered for funding. Past WSS grant recipients are eligible to apply, limit one request per agency.
Awardees will receive funding bi-annually (July and January); January funding is contingent on submission of a mid-year report and compliance with the grant agreement. Additionally all recipients will be required to submit a year-end report.
The grant application, and all supporting documents [501(c)3 letter, IRS Form 990, Board of Directors list and the current audit (for agencies over $500,000) or current financial statements signed by the Board Chair (for agencies under $500,000] must be submitted to UWCNM electronically to Christina Woodlee ([email protected]) by March 1, 2011 at 4:00.
