General Advocate

Main Areas of Responsibility: 

The Arc of NM, a local 501(C)3, is looking for a FT General Advocate. The primary function of this position is to work closely with Arc staff, and staff from other advocacy agencies, to address client needs, provide information, and advocacy to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and family members living in Albuquerque and the surrounding areas.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Some job functions include:
• Provide advocacy, assistance, learning and training opportunities and information about available community resources and/or services
• Answer questions on a range of disability-related issues.
• Connect families with community resources, including, but not limited to: Disability Rights New Mexico;
• Refer individuals/families to other Arc programs and services including Guardianship; Special Needs Trust; Self-Advocacy; Public Policy; and other resources if appropriate

Other Information/Requirements: 

• Act as an informational resource for self-advocates, families, educators, medical professionals, service providers and community members. · Troubleshoot emerging issues.
• Manage a high-call and e-mail volume, while documenting all contacts and interactions.
• Schedule and participate in regular conferences, priority meetings, and workshops in order to keep up to date with changes.
• Represent The Arc of NM at exhibits and presentations.

How to Apply: 

AA degree and/or equivalent experience in Human Services field req’d; minimum of 1 year of experience in a support or advocate position for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Salary Range: 
$14.42-$16.82/hr, DOE (+$1k year if bilingual Spanish/English, or ASL) plus benefits
