Environmental Justice (EJ) Advocacy Coordinator

Main Areas of Responsibility: 

The Environmental Justice (EJ) Advocacy Coordinator coordinates and implements projects and/or programming related to environmental justice issues such as land, air, and water. Through active engagement in dialogue and community organizing, this role cultivates strong alliances that align with a common goal of advocating climate and environmental justice, prioritize effective communication, and actively cultivate strong relationships with community members.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

* Lead and/or co-lead efforts to assess environmental justice nexuses and opportunities to improve justice and equity in TWU’s work in collaboration with Executive Leadership, the EJ program team, TWU staff, and subject matter experts
* Help the EJ program manager develop, deliver, and coordinate training and other educational opportunities/learning pathways for staff and programs that advance 1) understanding of EJ within the context of their area of work and 2) ability to apply an EJ lens to their work

Other Information/Requirements: 

* Experience working with Native American communities, cultural sensitivity to the needs and distinct tribal and cultural ways of life and willingness to complete cultural competency training,
* Attend in-person and virtual events and community meetings as a TWU representative to build and maintain supportive relationships with key decision-makers and community members/organizations, including local, municipal, state, national, and tribal entities or advocacy groups
