Grantmaking Program Area Descriptions:
Supportive Housing Program: Grants offered through a competitive process for new construction, acquisition, rehabilitation, or leasing of buildings to provide transitional or permanent housing, as well as supportive services to homeless individuals and families; grants to fund a portion of annual operating costs; and grants for technical assistance.
Section 8 Moderate Rehabilitation Single Room Occupancy Program: Assists very low-income, single, homeless individuals in obtaining decent, safe, and sanitary housing in privately owned, rehabilitated buildings.
Rural Housing and Economic Development Program: Grants to meet rural communities' housing and economic development needs.
Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program: Grants are to be used for developing non-luxury housing for low-income families and persons who otherwise would be unable to purchase a house. Eligible expenses include land aquisition, infrastructure improvements, and administrative costs. Requires participation in home construction from homebuyers and community volunteers.

Application Instructions: HUD requires all applicants to apply online through www.grants.gov. Grant application instructions are online and vary for each grant. Please note, applications must include a Dun and Bradstreet Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number and register with the Central Contractor’s Registry (CCR). It is suggested that this be completed at least 30 days in advance of the application due date.
