Mission/Giving Statement: Sandia Foundation is a New Mexico not for profit corporation founded in 1948 by the late Hugh B. Woodward and Helen K. Woodward to aid and assist educational, scientific, benevolent, religious and charitable institutions.

Grantmaking Program Area Descriptions:
Arts and Culture Grants: support opportunities to participate in, and/or learn about, the arts of diverse cultures with an emphasis on low-income populations and/or at-risk children and youth
Education Grants: support programs for early childhood, K-12 programs and adult learning experiences including literacy, parental involvement programs and vocational/career training
Environmental and Historic Preservation Grants: support the preservation of historic resources, conservation of natural land and wildlife and education programs with an emphasis on K-12 education programs and/or projects with strong community involvement
Health Grants: support access to quality health care (including mental health) for uninsured, underinsured and medically underserved adults and children
Human Services Grants: support assistance for vulnerable populations including at-risk children/youth and seniors; aid for people in transition or people who are homeless to become self-sufficient; and to nurture families

Notes: The principal beneficiaries of the annual income distributed by the Sandia Foundation are Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Each organization receives 45% of the current year’s total distribution. The remaining 10% is distributed to various Albuquerque charitable organizations as stipulated by the Woodward’s and by the Foundations’ Articles of Incorporation. The Foundation only funds organizations within the city of Albuquerque.
