Description of the Volunteer Opportunity:
Deliver hope to the hungry and homebound as a Volunteer Driver for Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque!
Make a difference in our community by Volunteering just 2-3 hours/week (minimum - you can always do more if you'd like to!).
The Volunteer Driver picks up an insulated bag and cold chest filled with meals for clients at one of the MOW offices. After checking for changes to the route, the driver delivers meals to clients in a geographical area. Primary Responsibilities: 1. Checks both containers for missing and/or extra meals and informs coordinator of discrepancies in meals prepared; 2. Provides social contact for clients, many of whom are very isolated; 3. Delivers gifts and favors for clients made/donated by community members; 4. Reports to coordinator anything unusual about clients noticed during delivery, acting as gatekeeper.
Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project:
The mission of Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque (MOW) is to nourish the bodies and spirits with balanced meals and friendship. Many of our clients are currently homebound and/or are elderly, recovering from an illness or injury, or have disabilities that preclude or limit their ability to shop and cook for themselves.
