Co-Leader (Pianist/Keyboardist) for Hearts in Harmony

Main Areas of Responsibility: 

Hearts in Harmony is a weekly, hour-long community singing workshop offered to guests
at the Interfaith Community Shelter (Pete’s Place), in which participants learn, rehearse, and perform
music with Desert Chorale artists. We seek a pianist/keyboardist to plan, select, and execute the music to be used at each community singing session on Wednesdays from 10AM-11AM, in collaboration with Co-Leader.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Prepare at least 2-3 alternative plans for each session; set up space prior to each session and clean up afterwards (requires lifting and moving keyboard and sound equipment, up to 30 lbs); recruit and encourage guests to participate in the weekly program; establish relationships with guests, facility staff, and volunteers; integrate story-telling and group sharing into rehearsals when appropriate

Other Information/Requirements: 

Music education, music therapy, and group/communal singing experience
● Knowledge of and facility playing a wide range of pop music, musical theater, and similar genres
● Strong keyboard and improvisational skills
● Ability to arrange music appropriate to skill level of the group
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills
● Ability to manage and work effectively with wide range of people and personalities
● Punctuality and reliable transportation
Spanish-language ability is a plus
