Description

This training will present the basics of identifying partners for collaborations, how to most effectively engage current partners, and how to expand or increase the scope of current collaborations.

Audience

This session is appropriate for nonprofit staff who are either beginning to build a new network/alliance/collaboration or looking to expand a current one.

Presenter

Patty Emord, Ph.D., Collaborative Solutions Consulting, has performed a variety of services including strategic planning and design, program evaluation, building evaluation capacity, coordinating state-wide research programs, developing evaluation plans, collecting and analyzing data, writing evaluation reports, and facilitating focus groups.

Dr. Emord completed her Ph.D. in Organizational Learning and Instructional Technologies in May 2009, with an emphasis on using evaluation as a means to organizational learning. With an interest in collaborative initiatives, Dr. Emord has attended the Network Leadership Training Academy, UC Denver School of Public Affairs 2016, a 3-day intensive workshop on building, managing and evaluating network, as well as workshops at the American Evaluation Association on evaluating and building organizational collaboration.

CFRE Credits

Participants can receive 3 CFRE credits for this training. Participants must ask for a CFRE certificate when they check-in on the day of the training. 

Guiding Practices for Nonprofits

  • Nonprofits should consider forming strategic partnerships with other organizations around relevant policy issues.
  • Nonprofits should maintain an awareness of developments, changes and current trends at the local, state and federal levels and assess opportunities for joint action with other organizations.
  • Nonprofits should be clear that the partnership and associated activities are in alignment with its mission.
  • Nonprofits should determine if there is mutual trust, an ability to regularly communicate, and a shared commitment to goals, objectives and activities.
  • Nonprofits should engage in smaller collaborative projects prior to working on a larger initiative in order gauge the viability of the partnership.
