Media coverage can raise people's awareness about your organization and the work you do.  What makes a good media story?

Learning Objectives
- Know how to craft your story so it gets told: write the best press release possible, develop a pitch story, and create a great press kit--online and offline
- Know the best media outlets to work with in Albuquerque, New Mexico and beyond
- Understand how to connect with Social Media; how to use Social Media as a vehicle for additional coverage

At the end of the training, participants will be able to use traditional and new media tools and services, and have strategic knowledge on how to deal with the media professionally and productively.

Participants will be able to:
o Have a clear understanding of what makes a good media story
o Know how to package their story to be told
o Understand the difference between a press release, press alert, and press query and how to use each
o Know what makes a good press kit and have the ability to put one together
o Understand the relationship building process and outcomes of using social media channels to further their message (story)

Level
Introductory/Intermediate: for anyone wishing to learn or improve their skills working with Media.

Lucy Rosen is president of SmartMarketing Communications (www.smartmarketingcommunications.com), a national marketing, public relations and business development firm, with headquarters in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  One of the country’s most established networking experts, she is also the author of “Fast Track Networking, Turning Conversations Into Contacts, published in 2010 by Career Press. Lucy has been featured in hundreds of magazines and newspaper articles -- including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Entrepreneur, Working Mother and PINK Magazine -- and lectures nationally on the topic of marketing, public relations and business development.
