Getting Started in Board Service: From Good Intentions to Good Governance, 2011

Do you have a passion for the environment, arts, animals or organizations that support vulnerable children and families? Have you thought about joining a nonprofit board but aren't sure where to start?  Serving as a board member is a great way to give back to the community. 

This training will help you prepare to have a rewarding and productive experience.

- Know how to find a board - identifying organizations with a mission that matches your values

Level
Introductory: this training is for anyone considering board service, or just getting started in board service. 

Presenters
Anne Nokes have been an active community volunteer in Albuquerque since 1960.  She has served on many Boards of Directors including All Faiths Receiving Home, PB&J Family Services, New Futures Inc., Alta Mira, United Way of Central New Mexico, Cuidando Los Ninos, Barrett Foundation and the NM Zoological Society.  Anne has been honored as New Mexico's Outstanding Volunteer in Philanthropy and has received the Arthur H. Spiegel Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dawne Bell, MPA, CFRE is currently the Executive Director of the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation, where she works closely with the organization’s volunteer leadership on strategic planning, while actively increasing the Foundation’s fundraising goals and program impact. She holds a B.A. from Kalamazoo College, an M.P.A from Grand Valley State University, and is a graduate of The Fundraising School at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.  A native Midwesterner, Dawne has nine years experience in nonprofit work as a professional fundraiser.  Prior to joining the Foundation, she was Development Officer at Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless.  She previously served as a fundraiser and grantwriter for an anti-violence organization in Michigan.  In the past five years, Dawne has served on numerous Boards of Directors, including: the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, the New Mexico Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network.
