Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Volunteers needed to work with both Basic Literacy (BL)English as a Second Language (ESL) students. We also offer these students Computer Literacy tutoring. 1 in 5 Adults in New Mexico reads below a 5th grade level. Training is provided. Work with your student weekly to help them reach their Literacy goals. Goals might be to read to their children;learn to use the computer to apply for a job; get a drivers license, a job, a promotion, a GED or even US Citizenship. Literacy levels in New Mexico are among the lowest in the nation. This is a rewarding volunteer opportunity to help change people's lives.

The community will benefit by having its members improve their lives. Our Social Programs will benefit by people being able to find work or find better work. Our children will benefit by having parents who have improved their lives through Literacy. The students will benefit by being able to navigate the many life requirements of being able to read, write and speak English.
