Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Wake Up Narcolepsy (WUN) is a national 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting narcolepsy awareness and research to find a cure. WUN carries out its mission by:
oProviding funding to accelerate a cure for narcolepsy
oIncreasing awareness of narcolepsy
oDecreasing time-lapse from symptom onset to proper diagnosis
oProviding supportive resources for people with narcolepsy and their families
Board members are expected to provide:
oLeadership and advisement in their personal area of professional expertise
oFormulation and oversight of policies and procedures
oFinancial management
oOversight of fund development planning and evaluation
oReview of organizational reports and marketing materials
oParticipation in at least one committee
oSupervision of an annual performance evaluation of staff
oA commitment to a diverse board that reflects the communities and interests WUN serves

Having a board member in NM will help our organization create public awareness of narcolepsy in the greater southwest region and allow the voice of New Mexicans impacted by narcolepsy to be included in the national dialogue.
