Victim Advocate

Job Description
Main Areas of Responsibility: 

Provide services to victims of domestic violence including women,children,elderly and disabled.Perform advocate duties for victims within the criminal justice system and the DVRC.Assist in training and supervision of volunteer/intern advocates within the victim advocate program.
1.Case management-analyzing files,follow-up contact with clients and monitoring client safety.
2.Provide direct services to victims of family violence,including transporting victims and children to safe facilities.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

3.Daily supervision of volunteers and/or intern advocates.
4.On-call support to provide assistance to law enforcement with domestic violence calls.
5.Provide crisis intervention and short-term counseling,referral to other appropriate agencies for long-term counseling.
6.Legal advocacy regarding victim's rights,court accompaniment and attendance at court hearings.
7.Provide assistance on domestic violence restraining orders and stalking/harassment intervention.

Other Information/Requirements: 

Experience and Training:
1.Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social sciences, or related field; OR
2.High School degree, two(2) year course work in criminal justice, social work, psychology, or related field and two(2) years experience in the legal system or progressively responsible social work at a domestic violence agency; AND
3.One year working with a victim oriented program such as domestic
Violence, child abuse, rape crisis; OR
4.Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
