Humane Education Teacher

Job Description
Main Areas of Responsibility: 

Work with the organization's educational staff to deliver APNM's The Animal Connection school-based humane education program in Santa Fe Schools during the 2014-2015 school year. Teach grades 1-7 using prescribed lesson plans and curricular materials provided by APNM. Coordinate student team participation in a research paper and multi-media presentation for each team. Coordinate student team presentations and facilitate audience participation.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Knowledge of current animal welfare issues; understanding of the connection between animal abuse, bullying behavior and other forms of violence and assaultive behavior (the Link); knowledge of local animal laws and regulation, both state (New Mexico) and Santa Fe County and municipality; classroom teaching experience at Pre-K through eighth grade levels strongly preferred; caring and compassionate attitude towards children and animals.

Other Information/Requirements: 

Dependable transportation to assigned work locations in Santa Fe area required; must be readily accessible by cell phone and email; must be comfortable being observed and assessed in classroom teaching settings; must be available for minimum of six (6) one-day training sessions and three (3) classroom observation sessions; must agree to a criminal background check (to work with children). Skills: written, verbal, group management, team and rapport building; teaching experience preferred.
