ESL Teacher

Job Description
Main Areas of Responsibility: 

An ESL teaching position to assist the Refugee School Impact Program to deliver academic school programs for refugee youth. These programs include: an after-school program for mid-/high school students; and a summer school. Other programs may be included as applicable.
The ESL teacher will be supported in a classroom by a cadre of volunteers and support staff. The ideal candidate will have experience in curriculum building and lesson planning in addition to managing a classroom.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Candidate will work directly with refugee youth in an academic setting: activities relating to English language acquisition in a variety of subjects (language, mathematics and science concepts, history), developing social skills, and well-being activities including field trips, yoga and other physical activities, and art. Candidate must be able to demonstrate an ability to work in a classroom with students at varying levels of English proficiency.

Other Information/Requirements: 

Cross cultural sensitivity and knowledge with the ability and desire to work with people of other cultures; functional fluency in one or more foreign languages preferred, but not necessary; skills in problem solving, negotiations, decision making and mediating conflict; ability to self-start and work well in a team setting. Proven team-builder.
